Drawing and Painting Classes for Adults, Youth, and Children

Three adult classes and four children and youth classes are taught with an emphasis on individual development.  A nurturing atmosphere prevails; the classes are disciplined enough to provide a solid foundation yet unstructured enough to encourage creativity through exploration.  Students of all ages participate in art classes at the Art Guild Studio.  They range in age from 7 years to over 80 years old.  In addition to Calhoun County residents, students travel from Jackson, Matagorda and Victoria counties to participate in classes.

Classes are provided for those interested in oil, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, mixed media techniques, ink and pencil drawings, including beginning drawing.  Barbara Burkett teach classes for beginner through experienced adult students, Patty Lowrie teaches beginner students and Tommy Thompson teaches beginner through experienced adults and youth.

Students in Art Guild classes are known for their encouragement to all students especially those just beginning art classes.

Classes for children and youth from 1st through 12th grade are taught by Margo Thorn.  She teaches drawing skills as well as instruction in a variety of colored media, printmaking and sculpture.
