Port Lavaca Art Guild Winter Classes for Winter Residents and Year Around Residents
For the first time Port Lavaca Art Guild will have special winter classes in arts and crafts in addition to our regularly scheduled painting classes.  We look forward to sharing our talents with our neighbors from other states, that we call "Winter Texans," who spend their winter with us.
 
Winter classes scheduled to begin in January are ceramics and pottery,  jewelry making, and crochet.  Students may also join regularly scheduled painting classes for the winter.   One half of enrollment in each class will be reserved for Winter Residents unil 7 days before class begins.
 
 If you have questions about a class, contact the teacher of the class.  A deposit of $25 is required to reserve your place in class.  Make your check payable to the teacher and send it to his/her address.  Refunds may be requested until 7 days before the first class is scheduled.  Or if the class does not make because of the minimum student requirement, your deposit will be returned.

January session - Exploring Elements and Coils

You will learn how to use copper and brass wire and sheet metal to make your own unique jewelry.  In the first class of each session you will learn basics including how to make your own findings. We'll also explore ways of making elements of each kind of jewelry. You will use your experiments of the first two classes to make earrings. As the session progresses you will design and make pendants, bracelets or necklaces.

 

You will learn to make jewelry using a minimm number of tools.  We will be "finding" and "repurposing" some of our tools from your knitting and sewing basket, your husbands tool box, your kitchen, even the freezer?! No sawing or soldering will be required. 

 

Classes begin on January 9.  Classes will be on Mondays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.  Tuition is $70 per month (4 classes), which includes the studio fee of $10. Tools and equippment will be provided for use in the classroom.  Materials for your project,mostly copper or brass wire and sheet metal will be available for sale in small quantities.

Ceramics and Pottery
Jane and Gill Gilmore
You will learn the clothing to wear and safety measures necessary in the making of a ceramic or pottery project.  You will learn to pour your own ceramic projects (if you choose) and progress from liquid clay to finished project with a stain or glazed finish.  For pottery you will learn hand building techniques: coiling, slab, and pinching.  Students will also explore how to use a potter's wheel and potter's tools to form a vessel from a lump of clay to a finished piece that is glazed or left in it natural state.  You will enjoy sharingyour unique finished projects in your own home or give as a gift.
 
Classes begin on Janurary 12, they will be on Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  If there is enough interest, a night class may be scheduled.  Tools and equipment will be provided for use in the classroom.  Materials used for your project and the studio fee will be included in the $75 per month tuition (4 classes).  A deposit of $25 is required to reserve your place in class.  Make your check payable to Jane Gilmore and mail it to 700 Matson Road, Port Lavaca TX 77979.
   
  
 
Crochet
Janice Blake

In this class for beginner students, you will learn basic crochet stitches and how to read and follow instructions. Classes will be Mondays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Four classes per month are $25 which includes studio fee and materials used for your project.  The first class begins January 9.

Oil Painting
Patty Lowrie

Patty Lowrie teaches beginner and intermediate oil painting classes on Tuesdays from 8:30 am 12:00 noon. She teaches portraits, landscapes, still lifes, or just about any subject a student is interested in.  Classes begin January 10. The cost of four classes a month is $60. Each class is $15, a student can take one class at a time if desired. Go to Art Classes

Oil Painting
Tommy Thompson

Tommy Thompson will teach beginner to advanced oil painting classes. The first 30 minutes of class is devoted to some aspect of making a better painting. While Tommy paints smooth paintings in great detail, students are encouraged to find their own style. Classes are on Tuesdays 2-5 p.m. or 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost of 4 classes each month is $80.  Classes begin January 10. Go to Art Classes

Watercolor Painting
Barbara Burkett

Barbara Burkett will teach beginner to advanced watercolor classes. The theme of January classes will be South Texas Landscapes and in February, Texas Spring Time. Classes begin January 4.  They are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 the first 2 Wednesdays or the first 2 Thursdays of each month. The cost of 4 classes each month is $55.
